AED 2000

The AED-2000

Introducing the AED-2000, the first hand-held acoustic emission (AE) instrument to meet the needs of a variety of field industrial applications. It is the first field instrument to combine thresholded event detection for "burst-type" signals and RMS (signal level) processing for continuous emission sources.

The AED-2000's many features include:

  • Simple 12-position keypad operation for menu navigation.
  • Four line x 16-character LCD display for selection of setup parameters and continuous display of readings. Backlighting is switch selectable.
  • Event mode; selectable in rate or totalized mode, showing both AE events and "counts". Ideal for crack detection, partial discharge in transformers, agricultural pest detection, cavitation in pumps and piping.
  • Selectable gain and threshold settings. Activity LED flashes when threshold exceeded in Event mode.
  • Signal level mode; RMS maximum, minimum, and average values are displayed, along with a bar graph showing the instantaneous reading. Ideal for leak detection applications in both gas and fluid-filled systems, and for machinery health monitoring applications on pumps, bearings, and other rotating equipment.
  • Sensor current draw displayed to verify operation of integral preamp sensors. Great for field test crews to test integrity of multiple cable/sensor installations without the need to tie up expensive multichannel systems.
  • Demodulated audio output to aid in the human characterization of signals. Important feature for low frequency leak detection applications, machinery health monitoring (bearing wear and lubrication problems), and insect pest applications.
  • A serial interface port for continuous data logging to computer. Individual setups can be stored and recalled for use in a variety of applications. Over 200 data readings can be manually logged in the field and later downloaded to computer via the serial port.
  • High reliability surface-mount electronics are housed in a durable, splash-proof, shielded plastic enclosure.
  • Battery or AC operation. Operates on two standard or rechargeable 9-volt batteries, providing useful operation for days (depending on features employed, such as audio and backlighting). Battery life is extended through low power electronics and automatic shutoff after 3 minutes of non-use.
  • Additional features include
    • Buffered AC signal out for O'scope and digital recording.
    • Wide bandwidthó1 KHz to 2.5 MHz.
    • Switch-selectable bandpass filter mode (specify 20-100 KHz or 100-500 KHz, or other specials).
    • 20 dB coarse gain switch. 40 dB of internal gain, adjustable by 1 dB.
    • Selectable threshold from 0-5 Volts in 20 mV increments.
    • Selectable test duration from 1 to 255 secs (countdown mode), or continuous operation.
    • 24-volt DC out to power preamps and integral-preamp sensors.
    • LCD backlight switch.
    • "Link" data light flashes to show data transfer through serial port.
