USDA-SRRC Demonstration of AED-2000 for Formosan Termite Detection
AEC recently demonstrated the AED-2000 and the new low
frequency SP-1 probe designs to researchers at the USDA
Southern Regional Research Center (SRRC) in New Orleans, LA.
Dr. Alan Lax and Dr. Weste Osbrink are key members of USDA-
SRRC staff heading a task force to control the Formosan termite
infestation in the US. The New Orleans area is "ground zero" for
this control effort. Up to 30% of the local trees, including many
heritage oaks, are threatened by this voracious insect. We
successfully demonstrated the sensitivity of our equipment for
detection of termite infestations in trees and soil near the roots.
See our "Applications" section for more complete information and
examples of termite activity detected.
